I hope you enjoy this song. When I wrote it I wasn't quite sure what it was about. I then decided it was a song to be sung at a funeral. It wasn't until later that I discovered the verse from Revelation 21:1-4.
I apologize for the quality of the audio. I tried re-recording it, but I could never capture the feel of this original. I recorded this immediately after finishing the lyrics; while the melody was still fresh in my mind.
I think I had a cold at the time which is probably why my voice quivers on some notes. (There's also some noise from a fan in my laptop which I eventually replaced.) The only thing I added to the original recording is a second harmony vocal track.
And now, I've actually come to cherish the little idiosyncrasies of this recording. I think it has a nice live and sincere feel to it. Regardless of the quality of the recording, I'm quite pleased with the melody and I especially love the lyrics.
I think of my songs as my small contribution to the culture of life that Pope John Paul II asked us to create. I hope you agree.
I just remembered what I was thinking about when I was writing this song. The "chains" I was referring to are the worldly pleasures that seduce us and try to capture us and keep us from attaining holiness. And conversely the "freedom" I was referring to is the joy of allowing Christ in our hearts.
"Happiness is something we all want, but one of the great tragedies in this world is that so many people never find it, because they look for it in the wrong places. The key to it is very simple – true happiness is to be found in God."
